Guidelines For Java Framework Developers
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkFriday, March 10, 2006
I want to propose a simple set of requirements for Java framework authors to help make their framework easily understandable and widely accepted. He also gets all the fame and glory of Java world (wouldn’t mind if he mentions my contribution) and in all likelyhood gets free passes to conferences.
Create a 1 minute, 5 minute and 10 minute tutorial. Each of them provides a phased introduction to concepts which can be mastered within the specified time limit of the tutorial.
Create a comprehensive manual, professionally edited with paid technical writers ( and not some overworked programmers doing his night-shift ignoring his family affairs).
Give the framework for beta-testing to at least 10 average programmers and record their questions. Then create a FAQ with them. Eliminate all smart-alec answers and have it reviewed by professional writers.
Provide a whitepaper justifying its existence and how it improves over the competition. Name all the competitors (you can find using Google search or your peers) and provide links to their sites.
That’s it folks!
Your feedback is appreciated.
