SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- Google might be the first word that comes to mind when we say search engines, but the creators of Blekko are hoping that the habit and the trend will change soon. Today the company launched and ironically the website has itself landed on the hot search list of Google. The USP of the new search engine are the ‘Slashtags’ that allow the user to filter the website with the additions of certain tags to the keyword.

Several web experts have shown curiosity in Blekko some saying that it might enjoy a better run than Cuil. One can also create their own slashtags and even edit the ones created by others. There is a global chatter that allows users to get updated about the new slashtags that are being added to the website. Many have said that the filtering idea could work well in favor of the search engine but it is highly unlikely that people will use it as a default search engine instead of Google.

The creator of the search engine, Rich Skrenta, said told the media that Google and Bing have hired contractors who refine the huge amount of data for them and thus they needed to come up with a plan. He said that they decided to let the public in and create their own slashtags for Blekko. The company said that the first target of Blekko is to find the 50 best websites for the top 100,000 search categories. They also said that with time the search engine will auto-slash the queries. Only time will tell whether Blekko will be successful on reaching its goal or not.
