Exxon Mobil, Colgate-Palmolive among big movers

NEW YORK — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

Ameriprise Financial Inc., up $4.70 at $42.98

The investment manager’s purchase of a Bank of America asset management unit helped drive net income higher in its second quarter.

Exxon Mobil Corp., down 57 cents at $60.34

Increasing oil prices boosted the oil and gas company’s net income to $7.56 billion, its highest quarterly profit since late 2008.

Colgate-Palmolive Co., down $5.74 at $78.12

The consumer goods maker posted quarterly revenue below expectations and said Venezuela’s currency devaluation would hurt its annual profit.

Motorola Inc., down 7 cents at $7.61

The handset maker posted a sharply higher quarterly profit as its strategy of focusing on smart phones like the Droid bore fruit.

Nvidia Corp., down $1 at $9.13

The maker of graphics chips lowered its revenue forecast for the second quarter as demand shifts away from its high-end, pricy chips.

Symantec Corp., down $1.64 at $13.03

The security software maker issued fiscal second-quarter guidance below Wall Street estimates.

Citrix Systems Inc., up $9.34 at $56.67

The software company said rising revenue helped boost quarterly earnings, and its forecast for the year topped expectations.

Vistaprint NV, down $18.27 at $31.99

The seller of business cards and marketing services projected income for the year below analyst expectations.
