Google Caffeine: Quicker, Sharper, Better Web search for future!

If you ask me to define Google my way, I will say, constant innovation. Despite having taken an oath to be impartial with my judgments about any brand, Google continues to fascinate me with their never-to-relax attitude having grown this big. Let’s not look at the history coz I know that you know it by heart. And so do we agree that nothing is alarming when your nearest competitor is by and large 3 times smaller than you (talking bout search engine and US traffic market share of Google and Yahoo). Still, Google wants to help themselves by helping us get better relevance of search results. The newest secret project for next generation architecture of google web search is called caffeine.
The continuing dominance of Google in search engine is better understood by the parameters with which they judge the quality of a web search. In their words, its
To build a great web search engine, you need to:
- Crawl a large chunk of the web.
- Index the resulting pages and compute how reputable those pages are.
- Rank and return the most relevant pages for users’ queries as quickly as possible.
With millions of webpages being served within fraction of a second, you don’t really care about improving more. But the best thing is, Google isn’t only upgrading crawling, indexing, and ranking changes, they are also giving you a preview of how things are going and what exactly are the changes. Now let’s talk about it.
1. Speed and Volume
Yes already the searching time has improved. Though you won’t notice because its too minute to understand but upon constant searching, we saw less indexed pages and quicker results.
2. Search Results Relevance
We searched with “Windows 7 Hack“. The newest google search result wasn’t distantly different from the one that is there now. But earlier we had the news results in the middle. That has gone at the bottom of the page now with another segment for videos. So that pattern is a lot clean and neat and it seems that Google is trying to segmentize search. Look at it to know what I am talking about
3. Importance on Real Time Search?
Do we sniff some trace of real time search or is it just me? Upon searching in the name of our blog, the caffeine project returns a new article in our blog while the old one goes for one of the most popular ones. Take a look
What’s more: Wonder wheel, Timeline
Google is indeed taking time into consideration and that too very seriously. If we were talking about real time search, what about another surprise. Google is keeping a time line of any specific search. Upon searching about Friends, you can get archive of data from old to new starting from 1960 and beyond! This is really impressive.
Also there is a wonder wheel concept which might be underdeveloped because we couldn’t test it. But looking forward to it anyway.
Conclusion
As it looks like, the project is pretty much in its nascent stage and the real values will be somewhere close to what I said and many more. It will be really interesting to see how and who gets affected or the other way around. Surely we can expect a lot of interesting articles on this in the future from curious webmasters and SEO analysts. But, there is one take home thing for Ya-Bing! Only UI won’t bring you people’s confidence. If you can’t improve the quality like Google does, I will sadly have to write bout the same old company again and again. Hope that inspires you!
