Google Donates $2 million to Wikipedia Foundation

The donation is definitely in line with Google’s readiness in giving to foundations that promote a faster and more open web. The search agent has donated $2,000,000 to the Wikimedia Foundation this time. The company runs and maintains Wikipedia. Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales and Wikimedia Foundation advisory board member Mitch Kapor made the announcement via Tweets. However, Google launched Google Knol about one and half year back to compete with Wikipedia. So, does it conclude that Google abandoned Knol project and developed more interest on Wikipedia as the knowledge center?

That’s great for better knowledge of the world… wikipedia is a great site so if the wikipedia closed it will be disaster for knowledge sharing of this world |
