AUSTIN, TEXAS (GaeaTimes.com) - Google addressed key questions relating to their two major products Gmail and Buzz at SXSW festival in Austin today. Why is Gmail slow? Googler Jonathan Perlow floored the question for audience attending the Behind the Scenes of Gmail panel discussion in the festival. Form all answers that came from audience, Perlow’s vindication was overwhelming. His answer was simple “slowness is really only an issue for power users of the service”. Especially, for those managing thousands of messages its a huge problem.

Currently, Gmail thrives on hundreds of millions of users following the service. What the audience was interested in was not the answer, but whether Google had the solution? Perlow didn’t go into the details of the backend changes that will take place, but he confirmed that “we are fixing it.

After sorting out the Gmail issues, the discussions turned to the new kid on the block that’s over-hyped - Buzz. Google Buzz’s privacy shortcoming was next in the slot.

Google Product Manager, Todd Jackson explained, Google was in error when it made the assumption that users wanted to move their email and chat contacts over to their Buzz social graph and auto followed them.

The following question that Jackson addressed was, why did Google Buzz launch without some key social features. He explained that while Google employees were testing out the product internally, they never had much desire to mute any of their coworkers.

Jackson assured that Goolge has set out plans to ensure that the blunder isn’t repeated. To avoid such flub-up, Google would be pre-releasing new Buzz features to small subsets of users for trials before releasing it publicly.

Such pre-release announcements would be contrary to the practices of Google. However, Google justifies the exception considering that Buzz has a major impact with respect to user privacy.
