Grid Computing: Sun Offers 100, 000 in Grid Compute Utility Cool Apps Prize

Sun Microsystems (SUNW) is hosting Grid CoolApps Developer Challenge - a contest to develop applications for Sun Grid Compute Utility and the ‘coolest’ applications win!
There are two ways to compete - the best application that runs on Sun Grid Compute Utility, and the best application built with the Compute Server Plugin for NetBeans.
In addition to US residents this contest is open to international participants too, those who cannot access the Sun Grid Compute Utility today.
There are two contests:
Contest A
- Open to US Participants only
- Participation requires access to the Sun Grid Compute Utility (you can apply at www.network.com)
- Contest participation doesn’t guarantee acceptance at www.Network.com
- Approved competitors will receive a token for 100 free CPU hours good for 90 day
- Contest participants are expected to verify that their Contest submission runs on the Sun Grid Compute Utility
- Contest submission can be written in C/C++, as well as Java[tm] programming language
- Contest submission must fall within at least one of the following relevant categories: Financial Services, Media and Entertainment, Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Energy, Scientific and Academic, Misc.
- Contest submission must not require a 3rd-party commercial license to run
Contest B
- Open to both US and International participants
- Does not require access to the Sun Grid Compute Utility
- Contest submission must be developed using the Compute Server Plugin for NetBeans.
- This excludes C/C++ applications as well as Java applications not developed with Compute Server Project.
- Contest submission must fall within at least one of the following relevant categories: Financial Services, Media and Entertainment, Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Energy, Scientific and Academic, Misc.
- Contest submission must not require a 3rd-party commercial license to run.
You can participate in only one of the above contests.
Sun is planning additional contests for later in the year, which will bring the total potential winnings to $100,000.
