Hard Drives No more: Google’s Gdrive To Takes fore - A Discussion

Google’s up and coming with ideas to revolutionize web-use. This time the cyberspace is ready for a new partition Google Drive or Gdrive(in short). Google’s latest innovation Gdrive is anticipated to bring about a major shift of paradigm on web world. It’ll change the way you use Desktops today. Already such concepts are ruling the markets with Microsoft’s Live Mesh and Apple’s MobileMe.  Well, off the records you never now it could be swan song for the Desktops. Lets find out the fittest that could survive the test of times.

Gdrive could rise to the top in Google’s line of products. The predictions reveal it could even overtake Google’s second most popular application Gmail, next-only to the search engine. Essentially Gdrive is an online storage offered by Google servers that would allow enough space to store you hard drive content. Let’s go through its anticipated features

1. Boot from Online Drive: Gdrive would include some cool features like booting your computer from online drive to load the Google operating system.

2. A Network Enable System: It would be a cloud based storage with two faces. This feature allows the desktop clients to keep the local and online files in two-directional syn through a web interface. So you can access the desktop files from anywhere, anytime using a network enabled system.

3. Integration with Other Google Services: The Gdrive would be integrated with other google services to accomplish editing of supported document types such as spreadsheet. Further, you would also be able to handle presentations via Google docs, email via Gmail, images via Picasa Web Albums, and more.

4. Absolute Portability: Isn’t that great if  you can start a presentation at Home and continue it in your office via Gdrive web interface. The story doesn’t end here, you return home to see all the modifications you made to the presentation have been upgraded in your desktop from the Cloud. Obviously, its a radical notion but fingers are crossed over Google’s execution.

Probably this could pose a dethroning challenge to Microsoft’s SkyDrive or Apple’s much-hyped MobileMe.

Up Close with Microsoft SkyDrive

Microsoft’s SkyDrive offers just 25GB of online storage free of charge.This comes with restrictions that you would be limited to 50MB per file. Even the advanced beta version, Live Mesh, offers as little as 5GB of  online storage but with more features. It allows your files to sync across web, desktop and even mobile systems. The Live Mesh allows access the Windows Mobile-powered cellphones.

Up Close with Apple’s MobileMe

The story continues with Apple promising a cloud service MobileMe. It would be Apple’s tool to sync files between Macs, PCs and iPhones. The debut was delayed due to ongoing troubles with MobileMe. Instead Apple built it into the desktop, Back to my Mac. The services featured in OS X Leopard allows MobileMe online storage, so you search, access and edit files stored on remote Mac.

Having said so much, I must add Google enthusiast are mellowed with such anticipations. We’ll have to wait and watch till the grape vine continues.
