I am using at Tata Indicom Broadband connection (unlimited 1Mbps plan) as a backup broadband connection in Kolkata. Browsing the web you will find several pretty negative experiences with Tata Indicom Broadband connection (provided below). Here is a review of experiences with Tata Indicom Broadband connection; must-read if you are considering Tata Indicom broadband for home or business.

Overall the impression on the net is very negative about connection quality and service.

15 Things you get with them -
1. Headache
2. 24/7 Tensions
3. Losing Money Pre Paid for the Connection
4. Sucking(I did mean Sucking) Pain
5. Too Bad Support who just forward you to many many concerned departments
6. Losing lot of money by calling them daily but getting no replies from them
7. Switched off phones - Service Line guys
8. 1 Month minimum New Connection Waiting Time.
9. No Refund for the payments made ie A Dead Investment
10. No Extra Credit Days even though their servers are down(Fuc**d up)
11. No Amount in your account even if you have paid a 3 Months pre paid
12. A Used Second Hand Router which does not work every 5th day and a TATA Indicom support guy comes after a minimum of 48 hours to replace it and get some Bribe for that.
13. Customer Service Helpline number which changes frequently so you cannot book a complain easily :(
14. Value Added Services like Link Down, Bad Connection, Bad Routers
15. These Guys who install the hubs on rental basis never pay their rents and in return we End Customers lose the connections.

This article simply points to the one above but has one commenter who lauds Tata Indicom from Pune. Rest of the comments are all disparaging.

Tata Indicom Broadband ConnectivitySandip had awful experience with Tata Indicom in Delhi, coupled with clueless, poor and unresponsive customer support.

What I didn’t realize while taking the connection, was that Tata Indicom Broadband is just Dishnet DSL with a new name, and it comes with Dishnet DSL’s “renowed” or shall we say notorious service record. Right now, in my last five weeks of subscription, the line has been unusable for two - that makes it a 20% downtime!

The stats displayed that he downloaded data even when his connection was down. You should be afraid of taking data limited plans with them.

Best of all his smokeping results (above) are very informative about their service quality.

Getting their connection appears to be a nightmare.

I’m a Tata Indicom Broadband Subscriber from Thudiyaloor, Coimbatore. From the begining, my experience with tata has been disgusting. I applied for my connection 27-02-2006 ( application number: 0767209 ) and Mr. R. Vinoth Kumar ( sales exec. ) said it’ll be 15 days before he can give the connection. Even after a month I hadn’t recived the connection! The connection finally came on 16-05-2006 after repeated visits to your office and meeting you Coimbatore Manager, Mr. Ramesh. They would’nt even refund my cheque, I’d applied for the pre-paid connection with advance rental for 64kbps unlimited. I’ve spent more than rs. 250/- in petrol just visiting the TATA office to ask them to put up my connection. I couldn’t even switch to another service provider because I’d paid TATA already - TATA was holding me for ransom! Even after I got the connection, there was frequent downtime like 5 hours a day which is unacceptable - I wonder which idiot at ISO certified your network. Now,
my connection hasn’t been working for the past 48 hours.

Tata Indicom Broadband in Kolkata
In my experience I have seen broadband connection quality varies with region and last-mile connectivity issues. Despite the strong negative experiences above I am still considering Tata Indicom Broadband as my secondary connection because:

  1. Lack of viable alternatives:
    • Airtel Broadband is not available at my location.
    • Reliance Broadband is a joke on the word Broadband when I last tried. Their speed was pathetic.
    • BSNL Dataone Broadband sucks; yet it is still my primary connection due to lack of better alternatives and reasonable price. Having it as a secondary connection too is out of question.
    • Alliance Broadband was unreliable and slow when I last tried about a year back. I have been on and off Alliance Broadband for sometime for this reason. I want to try something new before being forced to switch back to Alliance as fait-accompli.
  2. I had reasonable experience with VSNL dialup connection in the past. Also it will merely supplant and act as backup for my primary connection.
  3. VSNL is the backbone provider for India. It is not unreasonable to expect that they would soon clean up their act. Am I being unreasonable in my expectations?
  4. They have a reasonable 1Mbps and 2Mbps unlimited plans.
  5. One static IP with every connection. While I do not plan to host my websites on Tata Indicom, having a static IP on local connection helps significantly in providing security on my customer facing websites and for backup purposes (more on it later).

What is missing from this picture is feedback from VSNL Broadband subscribers from Kolkata. If you are a Tata Indicom Broadband subscriber from Kolkata, please speak up and let us know about your experiences.

Can some one tell me if I can get static IP from a datacard (mobile internetbroadband connection). Does any of the service provider provides this facility, could be at an additional charges.

I have similar experience with Tata Indicom Broadband.

I had paid 6000 rupees in advance for this WIMAX connection as they offered me one month free use of internet and no security deposit.

However I have been cheated badly, since my net is down almost all the time.Its been 3 months I have been using it and time and again I call up the customer care service for issues with connecting to the net.

They send over some guy who just comes and checks but again after a day or two its the same old story.

The most disgusting part was when I finally got fed up and asked them to disconnect the connection and give the rest of the money back, they said that they will not pay me the rest of the money back as I have taken up the connection in an offer.

With the kind of service they have given me I should get the entire 6000/ back.

TATA has really set a bad example of service with this WIMAX connection.

Before taking up a ISP I decided to have a look at the broadband forums to find the various ISP in Pune

I took up the TATA Indicom ( wired ) broadband services in Pune. Now it seems all the stories are coming true to me..

I paid hard cash so that they wouldn’t need to clear the money through cheque.. The guy from tata broadband who collected the
registration forms told me they require 5 days to install the Cable line.

Even after 25 days they have not yet installed the broadband. I paid them Installation ( 1000 Rs) + Deposit ( 1000 Rs ) + 1
months advance payment 1000 Rs + 12.5 servie Tax ( 250 Rs to the Blood and sweat sucking Govt from which Of course there is

nothing that I or we can expect ) . The total amount came to 3250 Rs ..

I called the service guy many a times.every time he would say that an engineer is being sent say around 3:30 PM .. then from

3:30 PM I would find his cell phone off till the next day ..

The month is about to be over for which I have already paid the advance payment..So it seems that my 1000 Rs advance payment

has already gone down the dirty TATA drain as I have to still go into Cybercafe for internet

I am planning to cut off the broadband connection as soon as it is installed. My money and time both are lost.. if YOU

wouldn’t like to waste your time and send money down the dirty drain don’t never ever install TATA BROADBAND.

Characteristics of the TATA Broadband services :

1.) If the TATA guys comes and tries to get cheque / money from you in a hurriedly ( hasty ) manner agreeing to everything

you say then he is planning to screw you up your ass at any cost.

2.) He would tell you that he would install the Cable on the 5 day then he means that install it on the 25th day or

thereafter.. Some smarty tata guy would tell they would install the next day or as soon as possible .. all these means the

same.

3.) You would ring him on his cell phone . he would readily pick up the phone addressing you as Sir or Madam and would tell

you that he is sending the guy at 4:30 PM .. It means that you would find his cell phone from that time till infinity

4.) every time you would ask about the status of your connection. They will make excuses that they have lot many connections

to install.

5.) You might not get the Service or the broadband .. but these beggars will send the bill on time, that is for sure

Hi All, I am using the TATA Brand band connection i can say simply its an WORST (India no.1) connection, no services , no customer support but more COST.As my experience who are takking Internet don’t prefer TATA broadband,if you take menas your wasting money,time,and getting headache…..especially chennai, i dodn’t about other cites.If we call customer care they will sir with your permission can we doo some basic troubleshooting that never works out….. Please pass to as many as friends this our personal experience no one should suffer so that we can save somepeople from TATA. Its a kind of paying money and getting torcher or heacdache - Prem

TATA Indicom broadbad is worst provider.

I am having hard time in believing that some service providers can even survive with such poor rating and every single customer dissatisfied with them.

I have never seen such… I mean I am speechless… pathetic service. Half the time its down. Very very poor service. Whats the use of high speeds if you cant access the internet.

Tata indicom is worst provider… even Porkistani provider must be better than this crap.
I think TATA brand has a couple of more such pathetic departments. See this.. I would definitely keep myself away from their GSM - DOCOMO.

I would never ever recommend even in my nightmares.

Hi,
I have registered a complaint on Sept 5th 2009. Till date nobody from tata has bothered to resolve the issue.
When you call the customer service –
1..We are working on the issue. I will send a message to my backend team.
2.Supervisor — This will resolved in 24 hrs.i get a call from the backend team…the issue will be resolved….nobody does anything…
3.When i want to speak to the supervisor — The supervisor is busy on other calls….
4.Whenever i called the customer service it would at least take minimum of 45 mins on the phone. I don’t have a free calling facility…
5.I have registered a complaint with office in Ameerpet still no response…
I work from home and make my living working from home. I depend a lot on the internet…
I pay approximately Rs -720 a month. It hurts a lot when you don’t get the service

This is the worst broadband service in the world. I took the connection a week back and in this 1 week I have raised 3 complaints, but still nothing happens. The internet is so inconsistent.

The customer service is one other worst thing. They talk as if we owe them so many. They dont care a damn about our problem and speak as if they are least bothered about us.

There is no connection between the data guy and the telephone guy. When I complained that the internet is not working he says probably because of a telephone problem and diverted me to him. He says that it is not my problem.

When I tried to call the escalation desk. They were behaving as if these escalations are so common and are again least bothered to find out what is the problem and resolve the problem.

I have disconnected the connection in just a weeks time.

Please dont even think of Tata Indicom broadband connection. Even a galliwala can give you a better interent connection and service.

I am having TATA COMMUNICATIONS broadband connection in coimbatore. For the past 5 weeks (from may 15th to june 20th 2009) their LOCAL SERVERS have been DOWN very very frequently, about NINE TIMES. The last being on 17th june 2009, till today its not rectified. Takes about 15-30 minutes to log a complaint in their call center. I spoke to the 1st level customer service personnel to the floor level supervisor to the Manager numerous times, sometimes even 2-3 times in day.. no results so far. The call center guys has always have a standard reply “pls give us a last chance, within 6 business hours it will be rectified” what a joke!. I Went personally to their local office in Coimbatore and there is no designated person to handle customer complaints, there are only technical engineers and they don’t bother about customer service! They dont even seem to monitor their LOCAL SERVERS. Only after a customer logs a complaint they try to wake up from their sleep. I have tried all means to get their attention from visiting their local office, to call center to Continuous mails to their NODAL OFFICER in chennai and nobody seems to care. VERY PATHETIC ATTITUDE SPOILING TATA BRAND. [after several visits to their office, the reception guy who takes complaints finally allowed to talk to one engineer named Kumarasen 9281053005 who said will follow up the issue, only god knows..]

I have taken a Tata indicom broadband with 4 months advance rental for 4 months in kolkata . Now the line came in 2 days .But only 1day the net was on then its now down for 4 days..Calling 10 times the no help from there..neither form the local office its really so bad..

I have a very bad experince with

Tata indicom

. Due to this I am very reluctant to by any TATA Product. Now a I am stopping even going to STAR BAZAAR.

The TATA INDICOM Service is very pathetic. They never mind attending customer complaint.From the day I got the connection, I havent used that connection, due to the bad reception and also my software got corrupted. When I asked for the service they even not bothered to attend my call. After continuous try I got hold of one call center girl. When I complaint about the issue they were started asking about their process. Lot of question. Whether do u have the complaint numeber. Why you forget the complaint numeber.blah blah blah. As a customer who bother abt their process. I told plz disconnect the connection and asked them to send their person to collect the base. But still now they havent taken any steps on this. But still I am receiving the bill which I havent used a penny till now. Instead I lost 2800 bucks towards getting the drive.

SO MY SUGGESTION IS DONT GO FOR ANY TATA PRODUCT ANYWHERE.

Hi everybody,

I got my Tata Indicom connection a few months back. As insisted by the sales rep,(it is a general technique they follow), I have paid 4 months’ rental of Rs.4800/-. I preferred Tata indicom because of the static IP facility they promise.

Immediately the next day after my registration, a connection was provided. The cable they provided used the trees along the traversal path for support. (No separate pole was provided).

The connection worked only for a day. Afterwards, I have launched nearly 23 complaints. I have also written 12 mails to various people including the appellete. (legal officer) but all in vein. When I contacted the local service people, I did not get any response.

But at the same time, I am getting the bills regularly. The status of my connection in Tata Indicom website shows ‘disconnected’. But i do not know how I am getting the bills?

I got the connection for a business proposal with an abroad client. For the poor service, I paid penalty also. I have not switched ower to BSNL and now I have peaceful sleep.

I am proposing to file a case in the local court also.

Do not ever ever ever ever ever go for the stupid VSNL - Tata Indicom connection. Please advice all your friends also. Do not even recommend it for your enemy

BOSS IF YOU VENTURED INTO THE NET OF TATA INDICOM YOU KNOW YOU MADE A HORRIBLE MISTAKE!!!

it was extremely stupid of me not to appreciate all the big warnings and became a sucker of the hoardings that declared that their internet is good. I am going to get to the bottom of this - there is no way they can get away with horrible tech support and mis informed inquiry of the call centre people - HECK THEY DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY WHEN SOMEONE WANTS TO SUE THEM!!!

The connectivity may be good - but there is HELL TO PAY if your connection stops - hardly from their 24 hour querry resolution - they take weeks at time - and there is nothing you can do about it - you always end up with a call centre employee always the courteous telling the querry will be resolved in 24 hours or less. i am putting you on emergency etc etc. There is no body who stands up to their duty or who says that we shall compensate you.. they just say - too bad - its going to get worse - so behave.

shit man! the Indian government system works better.!!! AKA BSNL.

Worst broadband connection. More than 60 percent of the time in the month, they will have problems and the internet will not be available. If any one is looking for broadband connection, I strongly suggest not to go for Tataindicom’s broadband. If you don’t listen, you will certainly pay the price for it.

I disconnected TATA indicom broadband before one year and didn’t get my payment yet. I came here thru’ google search for “data card”. I lost so much money by calling to register complaints. The Group who has helped india economically can’t even get a toll free number to help their customers. The only positive thing is they offer static ip. But when it is always off line broadband service. Static ip doesn’t matter much

I was using a Reliance data card for Net browsing.
As you know, the customer care of Reliance people is very much irritating, I wished to switch to Tata Indicom.
I have called the Tata Indicom dealer in Buttler Plaza in Bareilly, UP for details. I wanted a demonstration of the card in my home to check the signal availability.
My house is just one Kilometer away from the shop.
I called them on November 1st, but till now(till this 14th November) no reply had come. I have called them four times, but they say the demonstration person has gone for Deevali holidays.
Till now they have not come or called.
If this is their behaviour towards a potential customer, how are they going to service us if we take the card?

Hi friends,

This is Arnab - am a UNIX admin in an MNC in Bangalore. After my marriage (6 months back)i had to shift to a bigger house and unfortunately after i settled down i found NO other connection other than TATA (just a side note - that is exactly what TATA targets - providing connections at places where users dont have an alternative). I need to have Internet 24/7 for my work as i am oncalls sometime. I took the 2Mbps 5 GB limit - after 27 phone calls the cables were installed. I didnt know what i was stepping into. The person showed me the speed was more than 1.6 Mbps - wow i was so happy at that point of time

Next week the speed went down to 12kbps - that is in the month of June 07 and it has remained till 12kbps till the time the connection was active. I called the customer care 100+ times in a span of 3 months and NO response - everytime the CC people told me “they will get back to you within 1/2 hr”

I could still live with that as i could still get my work done. In the month of August from 8th till 14th, i started seeing huuuuge downloads on my account
I called the CC immediately and told them about it. As usual no actions had been taken - the logs showed i downloaded 2+ GB of data everyday - imagine - at a speed of 12kbps, when i was NOT at my home, TATA claims i download 2-3 GB data everyday? Also the downloads were at the time when i was not at home (i was in office) or after midnight. i thought the connection got hacked - but then the sales rep told me its bound to my MAC id. Also it was not a case of hacking becase with that speed it was not possible to download 2-4 GB within a span of 11 Hrs. They sent me a bill of 18500 and made my connection inactive.

In short:From 14th august till yesterday i have made 100+ calls and everyone told someone will come to your house and check it - the connection is still inactive, i have a pending bill of 18500, no one has got time to come to my house to check it for the last 62 days

On 3rd of October, 2007 - someone called me from TATA and said and i quote “i suggest you pay the bill or we will have to make you pay”

I called up the customer care again and went to the VSNL office travelling for 15 Kms and spoke to a lady who called the number back (from where the threatning call came) but the person acted as if he never even called me

Oct 23rd Oct, 2007 at around 4:00 went to TATA office in Jeevan Bhima nagar and spoke to a person there who said it has to be a backend problem and the TATA fellows started laughing listening to my bill amount (lol imagine)
Also i found that they automatically activated the connection and raised my bill to 19799. gosh!

On 23rd Oct 2007 i went to TATA office in Woods Street, Bangalore at 5:15 - but the office was empty - everyone already left for home (on a tuesday by 5 the manager left - no wonder their service is superb)

I called the Manager on 24th oct,2007 (today) and asked if he can check the server logs and let me know whats going on - he said he does not know all those things - all he knows is the bill came to 19799 and i have to pay that. Also he assured that he will take out that extra 1200 that they added “by mistake” (another false commitment)

We are forming a group against TATA and going to put them up in court for all this - please mail me if possible and lets start the revolution

I had moved to Kokalata saltlake and is a user for a tata indicom BB 512 Kbps Connects. My experience has been quite good . I get amazing speeds. We had a recent outage for 6 days due to some cable cuts. The CC team had been good enough in calling us up and keeping us updated on the prgress of the restoration work. Though 6 days down time is not acceptable the efforts to keep the customer in loop is highly appreciatable. Other wise i had not hand any outages,

As per the instruction in your last mail today on 10th August 2007 I have contacted Redington India Ltd. (ASC) at S-3, Green Park Extension, New Delhi by telephone on there phone number 011-46034447. They told me to come after 15th of Agust 2007 to collect the Data Device as the device has not been rectified yet.

I request you to please do the needful and arrange the device as soon as possible.

Due to negligence of Tata indicom I am getting monetary loss now as this internet device is my business tool. I may file a claim with consumer court if this matter has not been resolved within 24 hours.

And again I am informing you that I will not pay any rent for the priod Data card is not being used by me. I have already informed you in my email on 7th Agust 2007 which have not been replied yet.

When I have made contact with tataindicom customercare by phone I have been told that there were problem in Data Card and I have been sent to Redington India Limited, S-3, Green Park Extension, New Delhi.

They received My Data Card and issued me a Receipt No. DEL/HU/07/01212 Dated 31 July 2007, and told me that you will get your data card within 7 days.

When I contacted them today they are telling me that it will take 30 days.

I request you to please do the needful and arrange to deliver my data card to me at earliest.

And also this is to inform you that I will not pay any rent for the priod Data card is not being used by me.

I have purchased the Tata indicom Data card with the connection from Tata Indicom and in no means I am responsible to pay the rent when my data card is not working due to neligency of Redington India/Tata Indicom Service centre.
