Twitter outage clamps tweets, cause ‘unknown’

NEW YORK — Twitter is down. For users of the short messaging site, this means no tweeting about lunch plans, the weather or the fact that Twitter is down.

The company says in its status blog Thursday morning it is determining the cause and will provide an update shortly.

The status blog lets users know about planned outages and other issues on Twitter. This outage was not planned.

It’s not clear when the outage began, but it appears to have started midmorning Eastern time.

Major Internet services including Twitter do undergo unplanned outages from time to time because of overcapacity and other problems.

I’ve experienced Twitter downtime as well. It did get kind of frustrating to login or navigate the pages. I hope Twitter finds out what is causing these problems so they’ll be able to come up with the appropriate solution. Thanks!
