Unlimited Plans: Tata Indicom / VSNL Broadband versus BSNL DataOne Broadband - Single Biggest Difference

The single biggest difference between Tata Indicom Broadband & BSNL Dataone Broadband is the upload speed. With BSNL your upload speed is limited to 5-7 KBPS. With Tata Indicom Broadband / VSNL your upload speed is limited to 512 KBPS.
The other major difference is the availability of static IP with Tata Indicom Broadband. Unless you are planning to spam, having a static IP is a very big advantage for multiple reasons:
1. It allows you to host your own website from your computer
2. It allows you to secure your access to your internet servers by restricting access only from your static IP
3. It allows you to whitelist your IP, if necessary, from RBL’s.
4. It allows you to establish your digital identity on the internet.
The biggest non-technical difference is that Tata Indicom has a polite and responsive customer support which actually solves your problem.
BSNL / Dataone Broadband has a place where you can file complaints, but no steps are ever taken to resolve your complaints, you will never get any customer support. Saying BSNL customer support sucks is being polite. BSNL customer support is non-existent.

Do not even take TATA Wimax nor Broadband. Whatever reason. They all give a start up joy and later they dig you to hell!!! .. Right now I have 300 kbps connection TATA, and the download speed is 12 kbps. FTW! And I am paying 1100+ for it. I want to disconnect this! Please do tell if somebody has any solution how to! |

I do not know what is VSNL or BSNL but it was Local Bangalore Telephones a division of Govt of India Telephones that gave me the Broad Band and I o not know any office that is situated on Ground Floor of my place Vijayanagar.When ever there is a problem of Internet going off for a break,its very difficult to get any one officer who will take the responsibility to get my Internet working.You have to wait to get a complete tension of hearing to voice over tape again and again but no human voice which can hear you will come to you and listen.Today again when my Internet took its break and since 5 days the telephone numbers that were given to me to lodge my complaint was: |

Hey lol ur wrong… Static IP is even available in BSNL plans.. But default setting is dynamic IP. U can change the option for a static IP. Also Tata Indicom unlimited plans are not really unlimited, they’ve fair usage policy after which they say they’ve rights to suspend account and they will suspend it. Speeds are good in tata indicom but wats the use of having caps on download… AIrtel is the best ISP… |

hi, i have tata indicom connection at my home. 256 kbps unlimited. my experience with tata indicom horrible. 2 months back i had a problem that i could not connect and had also lodged a complain with customer care. for 16 days nothing happened(sent mail to cc people also). when i checked my usage online it was showing heavy usage during those 16 days even when i was not home. (that even when my complain was lying with them). one more problem from the startin of my connection i was not given the answer of my secret question the one u need to change your password. 6 months and i still have not received the same. Right now the connection is working but no issues solved. as had prepaid plan i had no choice but to continue the connection. After reading sen’s problem thanks god i opted for prepaid. as the period is expiring will check my luck with BSNL. |

Tata broad band says their customercare no 18002097070 is toll free. It is not.Tata Indicom is charging for calls made to this no.Iaddressed customercare on 19 sep, but it is not solved yet.Oher customers,pl check your tlephone cills. |

With Tata I got speeds upto 2.4 mbps (mega bits per second) during downloads. When Tata fails it fails due to a wire being cut somewhere. Otherwise it works fine without problems. |

The opinion of Mr. Angsuman Chakraborty is blatantly biased. I live in Kolkata and have got a BSNL dataone broadband connection for the last 2 years. I can recall two incidents - yes, only two - of nonavailability of dataone services during these 2 years. I do not have any first hand experience about the service of Tata indicom, but the opinion I got from my friends circle is not encouraging at all. In fact, Tata Indicom’s broadband service is as bad as their mobile phone service - at least in Kolkata. |

Hi friends, This is Arnab - am a UNIX admin in an MNC in Bangalore. After my marriage (6 months back)i had to shift to a bigger house and unfortunately after i settled down i found NO other connection other than TATA (just a side note - that is exactly what TATA targets - providing connections at places where users dont have an alternative). I need to have Internet 24/7 for my work as i am oncalls sometime. I took the 2Mbps 5 GB limit - after 27 phone calls the cables were installed. I didnt know what i was stepping into. The person showed me the speed was more than 1.6 Mbps - wow i was so happy at that point of time Next week the speed went down to 12kbps - that is in the month of June 07 and it has remained till 12kbps till the time the connection was active. I called the customer care 100+ times in a span of 3 months and NO response - everytime the CC people told me “they will get back to you within 1/2 hr” I could still live with that as i could still get my work done. In the month of August from 8th till 14th, i started seeing huuuuge downloads on my account In short:From 14th august till yesterday i have made 100+ calls and everyone told someone will come to your house and check it - the connection is still inactive, i have a pending bill of 18500, no one has got time to come to my house to check it for the last 62 days On 3rd of October, 2007 - someone called me from TATA and said and i quote “i suggest you pay the bill or we will have to make you pay” I called up the customer care again and went to the VSNL office travelling for 15 Kms and spoke to a lady who called the number back (from where the threatning call came) but the person acted as if he never even called me Oct 23rd Oct, 2007 at around 4:00 went to TATA office in Jeevan Bhima nagar and spoke to a person there who said it has to be a backend problem and the TATA fellows started laughing listening to my bill amount (lol imagine) On 23rd Oct 2007 i went to TATA office in Woods Street, Bangalore at 5:15 - but the office was empty - everyone already left for home (on a tuesday by 5 the manager left - no wonder their service is superb) I called the Manager on 24th oct,2007 (today) and asked if he can check the server logs and let me know whats going on - he said he does not know all those things - all he knows is the bill came to 19799 and i have to pay that. Also he assured that he will take out that extra 1200 that they added “by mistake” (another false commitment) We are forming a group against TATA and going to put them up in court for all this - please mail me if possible and lets start the revolution DO NOT TAKE TATA - its a nightmare - i m now getting THREATNING CALLS FROM TATA to pay 18500 which i have not used.
