Google has been working on Android at an incredible pace with Froyo being the slickest and fastest. It’s neither as simple as Apple iOS nor as elegant as Palm’s WebOS. According to the multiple sources close to Google it’s all about change. In terms of design and user interface it’s not simple. According to the multiple sources close to Google it’s all about a change. Google clearly knows its weakness and swiped interface guru Matias Duarte from Palm/HP. It has some serious implications for Android as a whole.

One of the major shortcomings with the custom skins is their inability to update in a timely manner. Android phones are free from such issues, as Google and Duarte  Android looks good or better than HTC or even Motorola.

There’s a root community of Cyanogen creating custom interfaces for “rooted”, or jailbroken, Android handsets. It’s unlikely to change. What about HTC, Motorola and Samsung, all these have been created for their own Android skins to lay on top of their hardware. HTC Sense UI appears on the HTC EVO 4G and HTC Droid Incredible. It has the best look and feel better than stock Android, Motorola’s Motoblur, that is focused on social networking. It never really got much of a foothold and Samsung’s custom interface that was most impressively ugly Android phone in existence provided by Matt Buchanan.

Overall its an excellent platform. The third-party skinners that can get even better, making Android more enticing for a wider audience.

The weakness of these custom skins is the inability to update in a timely manner with problem stock Android phones like Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One. If Google and Durate can manage to get Android looking as good or better than HTC or Motorola, the question is why would anyone bother with those?
