All you Facebook buffs must have noticed that the Facebook verified tag on your some of your favorite apps. Did you ever try to unearth what was it all about. Well, in short these apps passed Facebook’s review for trustworthy user experiences, and were given both greater exposure in the App Directory and less restrictive limits on the number of messages they could send to users. After six months of launching the program Facebook has finally decided to exterminate Verified app for its own good. For many those who guessing what’s interesting about it, you need to know that   Facebook’s announced that the plans will end the program in late October and had emailed the developers for weeks. After six months of launching the program Facebook has decided to withdraw the program.

The verified apps was an easy go for the developers. It was first announced at Facebook developer conference in July 2008. It was aimed at helping the users to identify the most trustworthy apps on the platform. The developers were charged a $375 fee to apply. Although the developers paid their money, but Facebook made no further announcements about the program for half a year, which led to unrest among the participating developers. It was finally announced after an year. Verified Apps was launched in May 2009.

Some developers were increasingly benefited from the program. For instance, CampusBuddy has grown from 60,000 to over 150,000 monthly active users. As CEO Michael Moradian explained Facebook will especially miss the extra boosts that applications received as part of the program because they helped virality.

With so much said and done, why does Facebook wanna stop the Verified app. Let’s have a look at Facebook own version

We are standardizing the idea of verification to apply to all of the applications on Facebook Platform. We are evolving the program to improve the overall user experience and ensure that applications on Facebook Platform meet verification standards. We intend to make sure that the experience that our users have on Platform is of the same quality as they experience elsewhere on Facebook, which is something that we are constantly asked for by developers.

This might be deciphered as Facebook’s intentions to make every app trustworthy instead of only a few chosen ones. In order to accomplish that the company is all set to expand team responsible for policy enforcement on Platform so that they can support the upholding of the principles we’ve introduced as part of our roadmap.
