On the Call: Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen

Adobe Systems Inc. posted solid results for its fiscal first quarter, boosted by higher revenue amid a stabilizing economy. Its revenue and adjusted earnings beat Wall Street’s expectations.

President and CEO Shantanu Narayen answered an analyst’s question about the iPhone, which does not support Adobe’s Flash software used to watch many online videos, in Web ads and to play online games.

QUESTION: If you could specifically address the issue, if you don’t mind, Flash and the iPhone … What are your plans or strategies to address that going forward, if you don’t mind giving us a comment or update on that?

ANSWER: “We’ve been fairly transparent about that issue, which is we are committed to bringing Flash to any platform on which there is a screen, and it has nothing to do with technology. I think you’ve seen demonstration of Flash running on smart phones from multiple vendors at (the large cell phone trade show) Mobile World Congress, including Android. … It has nothing to do with technology. It’s an Apple issue and I think you’ll have to check with them on that.”
