Google Kills Anti-Scientology Site’s AdSense Account

Google killed the AdSense account of an anti-scientology site - Enturbulation. Google’s explanation to Enturbulation was:
“While going through our records recently, we found that your AdSense account has posed a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers,” read Google’s letter to Enturbulation, a kind of home base for the now famous Anonymous movement. “Since keeping your account in our publisher network may financially damage our advertisers in the future, we’ve decided to disable your account.”
I find this strange because Google applies this policy selectively and most likely because of pressure from Scientologists. Mashable, for example, found anti-creationist sites with pro-creationism ads.
Register notes that Google’s new AdSense policies say that partner sites may not include “advocacy against any individual, group, or organization.”
That said, Google’s terms and conditions also prohibit “any action or practice that reflects poorly on Google or otherwise disparages or devalues Google’s reputation or goodwill.” And this isn’t always enforced. The Register, for instance, is an AdSense user, and it doesn’t always champion Google’s every move.
I too criticize Google when it deserves it and so does any ethical blogger / journalist I am sure.
Register also found out that YouTube destroyed Bunker’s video channel because (as they stated) he’d already had an account suspended for violations of site policy. But it seems this rule did not apply to the Church of Scientology.
If a big and influential organization like Google gets so easily influenced by Scientologists,as it would seem to common people, then we all are in big big trouble.

Er, you say this like the Church of Scientology are a bunch of bean eating hippies… They are in fact a well run corporate entity. One that, due to its non-commercial status, pays no tax. Ask any economist (or your own sense of common) and you will find out that this, if unchecked, is a dangerous proposition. Google-schmoogle, I’m yet to see a multinational company undertake ethnic cleansing or an ‘inquisition’… |

Google “advocacy against” any group is pretty clear in the TOS. There must have ben a complaint against Enturbulation. Google does try to spread Goodwill. I wish Google would not indexs virus spreading sites. |
