India Celebrates Sir Visvesvarayya’s Birthday as ‘Engineer’s Day’ today

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — In India, every day is celebration day for the people. September 15th being no exception, is officially celebrated as Engineer’s Day all over the country. In honor of India’s most famous engineer, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, people of India celebrate his birthday as Engineer’s Day.
This day is celebrated all across India with events and functions in various engineering colleges. India has a large number of engineering colleges which produces some of the best of engineers the world has ever seen.
Visvesvarayya was responsible for designing a flood protection system for Hyderabad city. He was also instrumental in developing a system to protect Vishakapatnam port from sea erosion. The dam built by Sir Visvesvarayya on Kavery river was one of the largest dams in Asia during 1940’s.
For his contribution in developing India’s infrastructure and civic advances, Sir Visvesvarayya was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955 and was also knighted as a Commander of the Indian Empire by King George V earlier.
Just the number of Indian engineering establishments named for Visvesvarayya shows the reverence he is held in even today. In honor of India’s first, and most preeminent engineer, the people of India comes together to celebrate September 15th Happy Engineer’s Day!
