Media6Degrees hires former Google executive as CEO
PHILADELPHIA — Media6Degrees said Wednesday that it has hired a former Google Inc. executive to serve as its chief executive.
Tom Phillips joins the New York-based company, whose technology allows online advertisers to target their customers and the people with whom they most closely associate. Media6Degrees spokeswoman Susan Turner said the company does not track personally identifiable information such as customers’ names.
Phillips headed search and analytics at Google, handling the integration of DoubleClick into the search giant. Phillips replaces Joe Doran, who will be an adviser to the board and continue to work on developing new business opportunities for Media6Degrees.
Phillips previously was CEO of Deja.com, which he sold to Google and eBay Inc. In the 1990s, he held positions in digital media at Starwave Corp., leading teams that developed ESPN.com, NBC.com, NFL.com, among other well-known sites. In 1986, he co-founded Spy magazine.
