SRINAGAR - Hundreds of activists of Jammu and Kashmir’s ruling National Conference (NC) staged a protest in Srinagar on Monday condemning the derogatory remarks made by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against its leaders on a popular social networking site.
Protestors holding placards and banner raised slogans against the PDP for depicting three generations of the Abdullah family as “3 Idiots” on Facebook, a popular social networking site.
On Friday, the National Conference, sought an apology from the PDP for depicting these leaders in derogatory manner.
Protestors accused the PDP for “stooping low in politics” by making pun of Abdullah dynasty, whose three generations have led the NC party and also headed the state government for most of its history since 1947 when it became part of the Indian union.
Frenzied activists also burnt the effigy of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, and demanded an apology for the Facebook slur.
“The day before yesterday Mehbooba Mufti has sent an SMS that contains derogatory remarks against our leaders Sheikh Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah…we staged a protest at every headquarter yesterday also. We will continue our protest till Mehbooba Mufti seeks apology.” said Ali Mohammad Dar, leader national conference.
National Conference accused PDP of launching a tirade against the Jammu and Kashmir government. On the other hand, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti denied the allegation.
Three generations of the Abdullahs - Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah- have been depicted on the Facebook, as actors of a popular Bollywood film titled ‘3 Idiots’. (ANI)
