The copyright infringement case between Viacom and Google has ignited up. The federal court has asked both the companies to file motions for summary judgment. It implies that the time of taking depositions and exchanging documents is over.
In 2007, Viacom, an entertainment giant, had accused of Google and YouTube for “massive intentional copyright infringement”. According to the complaint, Google was earning profit from 160,000 unauthorized clips of Viacom’s entertainment programming, available on YouTube. Those clips were viewed more than 1.5 billion times.
YouTube was acquired by Google in 2006. Google’s official while talking about the $1 billion suits filed by Viacom, expressed their faith on YouTube’s loyalty. They emphasized that YouTube respects legal rights of copyright holders and has the ability to attract more users and more traffics.
Lets wait and find out which company wins the legal battle.
