iPhone OS 4.0: Features to Look For
By Jayita, Gaea News NetworkThursday, April 8, 2010
April 8, 2010 will be marked as a big day in Apple mobile history because this is the day Steve Jobs and co would reveal the next generation of iPhone OS. Before the announcement of iPhone OS 4.0, rumors are circulating the web surface about plausible features of iPhone OS 4.0. I have gone through some of those rumors and pick up the most likely features of iPhone OS 4.0. Lets shed some light on what you can expect from Apple’s next-generation iPhone OS.
1. Multitasking Support
Obviously, this is the most anticipated feature of iPhone OS 4.0. Apple has long been criticized for not supporting multitasking in iPhone. iPhone prevents its user from running more than one third party apps concurrently. People want to listen to Spotify while browsing the web like those Android folk. With the release of iPad, its became more necessary for Apple to allow users run several apps at once. Now the new version of Apple OS is expected to solve one of the device’s biggest downfalls.
2. Hardware to be faster
One group of people believe that the next iPhone and iPod Touch with new OS will have faster hardware. I will not be surprised if a faster processor and even faster Wi-Fi are announced.
3. Support for a second camera
The 3-megapixel camera of iPhone will be bumped with a higher version. iPhone OS 4.0. will be supporting a second, front-facing camera for video chatting. Third party apps may want to take advantage from this change, but Apple is not supposed to allow such hardware for non-native apps.
4. Global inbox
Though multiple mail accounts are supported by iPhone OS, user often finds it painful to check each one separately. iPhone OS 4.0 is rumored to have a global mailbox which would enable users to view mail from each of their inboxes in one place.
5. Contacts at Homescreen
We always crave for putting our favorite contacts onto our homescreen, so that we can call them by a single touch. It seems Apple is trying hard to bring this feature in its new devices running with OS 4.0. It will not be out of context if I inform you that currently it takes three taps to dial a contact in your favourites menu.
6. Higher Resolutions
iPhone supports only 480320 screen resolution, while there are many handsets available in the market that have bright 800480 resolution. If the rumor associated to iPhone OS 4.0 turns true Apple will come with higher resolution for its next-generation devices expected in a few months.
