DoubleClick for Publishers - Small Business is, according to Google, a streamlined version of their new platform designed to meet the needs of growing publishers. The new DFP offers an even more intuitive workflow to help publishers of all sizes manage campaigns quickly and easily, while providing access to sophisticated feature set including advanced reporting, forecasting, and optimization capabilities.
Google Ad Manager publishers will automatically be upgraded to DFP Small Business in the coming weeks. New publishers signing up for Google Ad Manager today will be automatically upgraded to DFP Small Business on the same schedule as current GAM publishers.
How do they define “small business”? At what point will they come back to Google Ad Manager / DoubleClick for Publishers - Small Business customers and force them to upgrade to DoubleClick for Publishers?
Google states that there are no costs associated with using DFP Small Business if you serve less than 90 million monthly ad impressions (Does not include AdSense impressions. There is no restriction on the number of monthly AdSense impressions you can deliver.). If you serve more than 90 million ad impressions per month, you will have to contact Google “to learn” about their DFP premium solution. I like the language they use (”to learn”). Nevertheless I think 90 million non-AdSense ad impressions is a big number for most publishers and beyong that I am sure no publisher will mind to “learn” about their premium solution.
Is DoubleClick for Publishers - Small Business (DFP Small Business) right for you?
Google recommends DFP Small Business if you (publisher):
- Have begun receiving requests from advertisers who want to buy ad space on your website.
- Manage multiple ad networks and need a consistent way to deliver ads that make you the most money.
- Want to start serving ads quickly with limited training time and trafficking steps.
- Need greater control over when, where, and to whom your ads deliver.
How is DFP Small Business different from DFP (DoubleClick for Business)?
According to Google, DFP premium solution provides ad serving and management for publishers with large sales teams and complex sales operations who often require an advanced feature set, greater levels of customization, and enhanced partnership and consulting services. As stated before, you will need to “learn” about DFP premium if you are serving over 90 million non-AdSense ad impressions per month.
What about security of DFP Small Business?
Google makes the following promise for enhancing the confidentiality and security of your information:
- The data you enter in DFP Small Business:
- Will be used to improve your individual experience with DFP Small Business.
- Won’t be used when providing service to other DFP Small Business users without your consent.
- Won’t be given to or made accessible to other DFP Small Business users without your consent.
- If applied toward any general product improvements, the data you enter in DFP Small Business will be combined with data from other DFP Small Business users and anonymized.
- Transmission of your data is always encrypted by industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology.
Bottom line: DFP data may be used after anonymization to “improve” Google Search, Google AdSense and other Google products
