CALIFORNIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In a recent development that has again highlighted the lapses in the privacy policy of internet search giant Google Spain has expressed its doubt over the much touted Google Street View. The internet search behemoth has confirmed that a number of street view cars it uses had gathered data from some unsecured wi fi networks. The incidents took place in 30 countries but Google says it was not intentional. As a result a representative from Google will have to appear before a judge in Madrid to clarify the incidents. The hearing will take place in October as the reports suggest. The company wants to come out clean from the fiasco.
Av privacy watchdog entity Apedanica filed a complaint on the issue and that has landed Google in soup. The representative from Google will have to clarify what data was gathered, the way it was collected and how many people were affected by it. Google has said it will co operate with the Spanish authorities in this regard. Meanwhile the investigations are being carried out in Australia, Germany and France.
Already the internet search giant is facing the heat of the US authorities for data harvesting. A massive investigation supported by 38 US states is on as well. In UK the situation is slightly better for Google as the Information Commissioner gave it a clean chit for personal details collection. The so called personal data was collected by Google for more than 4 years. The incident has created a sensation in the tech circle and the privacy policy of leading technology companies may go under scanner.
