Yahoo launches mail and messenger apps for Android
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Yahoo Inc. said Thursday that it now has mail and messenger applications available that run on Google Inc.’s Android mobile software.
Android runs on phones such as the Droid and Nexus One.
Yahoo also said it has improved its mail and news mobile websites for the iPhone and iPod Touch by using HTML 5, a computer language that acts as a substitute for Flash graphics, which are not supported on Apple Inc.’s mobile gadgets.
Yahoo’s shares were up 18 cents, or 1.3 percent, to $14.02 in midday trading.
