Apple Reluctant to Adopt Green Technology?

Its good to be different and stand out from the rest. But when its about good will and making life easier, that very concept can boomerang you to snobbishness. In our previous article on green mobile phone revolution we had shown you how manufacturers are working on the future of green mobile phones. Noticeably absent was Apple. Again, as Appleinsider tells us, although AT&T and several other iPhone partners joined an industry initiative to standardize mobile phone chargers over the next few years, Apple has yet to follow suit and may remain committed to its proprietary dock-connector interface.

This doesn’t need a great deal of intelligence to say that the change would make things simpler for the consumer, who could use the same charger with all future phones and charge anywhere with any available unit. The affirmed group includes AT&T, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, T-Mobile, and Vodafone.

Appleinsider informs,

The chargers will boast a 4-star or higher efficiency rating in order to be three times more energy-efficient than an unrated charger and consume 50% less stand-by energy. The GSMA estimates greenhouse gas reduction by 13.6 to 21.8 million metric tons as the replacement rate for existing chargers decreases.

Its been two occasions now back to back. First the mobile world congress where big companies have promised to think of a green revolution in the future. And now this. While we appreciate the effort of GSMA in making, I wonder why its only Apple who is absent from both. With its sleek and sophisticated iPhone designs and millions of dedicated fans, Apple may have influenced a lot to go for a greener future. Didn’t someone say, with great power, comes great responsibilities?
Apple is long due for a more humane side of his. As poets say, beauty is only a small chapter of existentialism. Apple needs to realize it.
