Google Celebrates Silver Jubilee of Buckyball in Its Logo

If you land up to search anything on the world’s most famous search engine today, you will find a buckyball in its logo. Google is celebrating the 25th anniversary of buckyball by giving it an honorable space in its logo.

Now you ask what is buckyball? If you go to the home page of Google you will find that the second ‘O’ of the logo has taken the shape of a chemical molecule 3D structure resembling a football. Google is on to celebrate the 25 years of discovery of buckyball, a carbon molecule structure (C60) mainly composed of carbon atoms.

Imagine a football depicted in 3D you will surely get an idea how buckyball looks like. Google has surely come up with an interesting and interactive way to celebrate buckyball’s anniversary. Visit the homepage and roll your PC mouse over the special ‘O’ you will see that the buckyball is spinning with the movement of your mouse.

No wonder if you click on the buckyball ‘O’ Google will provide you a host of information about it. Buckyball is a colloquial name for a spherical fullerence, buckminsterfullerene. It was discovered since 25 years ago by a group of scientists at Rice University in Texas.
