Ubuntu Gaming Community - First step towards FOSS gaming?
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkMonday, April 27, 2009
Free and open source software or FOSS have never been able to penetrate into the gaming world effectively. What they needed to do was perhaps to build up a community of gamers, a platform for the game freaks so that from there it can start off with a strong userbase. While it was not thought of earlier, now an Ubuntu gaming community has started developing itself. But there are a lot of things to be done.
Take Nexuiz for an example. Wouldn’t you like it to be as successful as Quake III or Unreal tournament multiplayer online gaming? Sure. But for that they will have start from somewhere. The Ubuntu gaming community has a straight mission in their hands,
- Connect FOSS gamers on Ubuntu
- Promote FOSS gaming on Ubuntu
- Address barriers to the development of FOSS Games
- Connect LoCo’s involved with FOSS gaming
- Help organize gaming events
You can join them here and as you know that developing and marketing a game has a high-end cost so you can always help them by donating whatever you feel like. Believe me even $5 will be taken with heart.
