WordPress Comment Spamming - Over 50% Contributed by Top 100 IP Addresses

I briefly reviewed my corpus of 4569 comment spams in my Akismet queue. Of them over 53% of the spam has been contributed by Top 100 spamming IP addresses.

Feel free to add them to your IP filter / block list.
It indicates that, even with today’s distributed spamming attacks, IP blocking is still an effective means of blocking comment spamming.

Top 100 my ass. How old is that list? Some of them are not even listed in any of the spam indexes. Most are listed in one or two of the MINOR indexes. A few are really bad ones worth blocking. |

I block them at the server. They are blocked from accessing my Virtual Private Server. |

Very interesting - do you put those IPs into Options > Discussion or do you use .htaccess ? |
