200,000 Android Phones Activated Every Day: Google

According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, 200,000 Android units are activated today compared to activation of 100,000 units each day in May. Schmidt made this statement at Technology conference in Lake Tahoe, CA. The activation proves tremendous growth of Android platform in a few months. According to the company’s internal figure, Android outsold iPhone in the last quarter. He continued that the popularity of Droid X is the main driving force for the popularity of android platform.
Eric is also very excited about Samsung’s Galaxy X phone because they will be available on all carriers. As per the recent report of Research firm iSuppli, the total market share of android based phones are going to outnumber iPhone by 2012. In 2012, 75 million smartphones will be using Android platform, while iPhones is going to account for 62 million. Further, the research firm NPD’s data shows that Android accounted for 33 percent of smartphone sales in the second quarter of 2010 in US. RIM dropped to second place with 28 percent. Apple remained in third place with 22 percent.
