Microsoft, Google gain search share in November
RESTON, Va. — Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. boosted their share of Internet searches in November, mostly at the expense of Yahoo Inc., a research company said Wednesday.
Google remained the dominant search leader, handling 65.6 percent of the 14.4 billion queries logged by Americans, comScore Inc. said. That was up 0.2 percentage points from October.
Third-place Microsoft, whose Bing search engine debuted in June, gained 0.4 percentage points from a month earlier to 10.3 percent, while No. 2 Yahoo fell 0.5 percentage points to 17.5 percent.
Microsoft hopes to begin to power Yahoo’s search engine in the United States by the middle of next year if government regulators approve an agreement they announced in July.
IAC/InterActiveCorp’s Ask.com handled 3.8 percent of all search queries in November, down 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, and AOL.com handled 2.8 percent, also down 0.1 percentage points.
